FGS has appointed five mental health first aiders who will be a point of contact for those who are experiencing mental ill health, as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting staff with their health and wellbeing in the workplace.

FGS’s mental health first aiders have been trained through the MHFA England programme to identify, understand and help colleagues who may be experiencing a mental health issue. They are available for any FGS employee who may need some extra support.

Says Craig McGilvray, FGS’s CEO: “The health and wellbeing of all of our workforce is extremely important to us. Our mental health first aiders have been trained to notice the signs of mental ill health and actively work to break down barriers and listen to colleagues in a non-judgemental way. They will provide initial support and signpost colleagues to external help if required.”

Says Lauren Barreau, HR Business Partner and one of FGS’s mental health first aiders: “Our role is to be there to listen to employees who have concerns about their own, or a colleague’s, mental ill health. It’s an important role and we take it extremely seriously. We encourage employees to approach us at any time and, whilst we are not trained therapists or psychiatrists, we do have access to external resources to further extend support to those who need it.”

FGS’s mental health first aiders are:

Nicola Thomson – Head of Marketing

Keren McBratney – Head of EHS

Tony Adams – Project Manager

Lauren Barreau – HR Business Partner

Nigel Armstrong – Operations Manager
