Arrow Digital, distributor of Epson Surepress In India, sold an SurePress L-4033AW to J P Printers in Mumbai during Labelexpo India 2014.

The printer will use the press for printing short-run labels and creating mark-ups in the cosmetic and specialty food segments.

Harishankar, senior manager for sales at Epson, said: ‘Digital is getting accepted as a complimentary technology to offset and flexo presses to cater to small and medium runs. People are now willing to invest in a digital press knowing that conventional will never run down owing to its own advantages. The technology is picking up because of the low volumes and extra wide color gamut that it provides.’

SurePress L-4033AW uses water-based inks and is suitable for segments such as pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food, amongst others. The press uses a seventh white ink to print the transparent no-label look, as well as metallic labels. The opaque white printing on materials, such as clear film and metallic substrates, has the flexibility of printing white first or last.

The SurePress L-4033AW comes with automated printhead maintenance, and ink cartridges that can be replaced without stopping the press. The press is powered by the included RIP and Max Print Pro from ISI Graphics. It can print on a variety of substrates such as PET, BOPP, textured paper in the range of 80gsm to 300gsm.

This is the third press that Epson has sold in the current financial year. The first was installed at Sai Packaging in Bangalore and the other at Trigon in Mumbai.

Harishankar said: ‘Labelexpo India is turning out to be a good show for us. We have been meeting a lot of prospective customers. I optimistic about sealing the deal of a couple of more presses this year.’
