After the recent passing of its founder, Vester Bryce Wilson, leadership of the family-owned, greater San Francisco frameless shower door company Wilson Glass is officially passed down to his son David and grandson Aric. Known to everyone as "Bryce," the World War II tail gunner and lover of piloting planes, motorcycles and golf is already missed by his family, who vow to carry on the tradition of providing the highest quality products and services at fair prices.



"It may sound corny, but I really do want to help people," said Aric Wilson. "The passing of my grandfather has further strengthened my resolve to be among the best businessmen in the Bay Area."



What is now a leading East Bay glass countertop and glass shower door company was founded by Bryce in 1956. He opened his first shop at 1555 Galindo Street in Concord, California, an area now dominated by modern apartment buildings. He moved the business to its first Berkeley storefront in 1977.



Bryce's career in the glass industry began after he received an Honorable Discharge from the Army in October, 1945, after flying 29 combat missions as tail gunner in B-17 and B-24 aircraft, including a flight over Normandy on D-Day. Upon leaving the military, he came to live with his parents-new arrivals from Arkansas-at their new home in Richmond, California, which happened to be right next door to Frank Miller Glass Co.



Bryce went to work for Mr. Miller for about 75 cents an hour. In addition to waiting on customers, he was often recruited to help install enormous plate glass windows. Most of the new stores of the time were installing the large plate glass panes, which were susceptible to breaking during strong winds and needed frequent replacement.



"My grandfather had dozens of great stories about his adventures-he truly lived a very exciting and colorful life," said Aric. "He will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends."



Today Wilson Glass builds and installs beautiful shower doors and glass countertops for homeowners and contractors all over the Bay Area. The greater San Francisco shower door and countertop company also builds custom products for DIY and out-of-state customers. In fact, about 40% of their current business now comes from shipping to clients who live out of the area.



The company's folding, bi-fold and tri-fold shower doors are perfect for shower enclosures where there is no space for a door to swing out, and must be folded against the wall.
