More than 5,000 school-age children recently participated in the Youth Science Festival 2001 in Jakarta, which was organized by the Indonesia Science Center and sponsored by DuPont.

In a speech at the kick-off of the event, Hatta Rajasa, the country's minister of research and technology, said he appreciated the efforts DuPont has made to encourage the nation's children to take an interest in science. "Science has over the years lost some of its appeal to students, but this trend can be reversed with efforts to promote the subject in ways that are interesting and involve a bit of fun," he said.

DuPont Indonesia Managing Director Frank Moniaga said: "DuPont continues to support activities that promote science and education because science is so essential for the future of mankind." He noted that DuPont has brought "the miracles of science" to the world for nearly 200 years.

The festival included a variety of activities and displays, including a science fair showcasing student-made projects and a math competition.

Encouraging interest in science and giving back to the communities where our employees live and work are part of the DuPont mission of achieving sustainable growth.
