The award - coordinated by the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) of China and the China Forum of Environmental Journalists Association, and sponsored by DuPont - recognizes journalists for their efforts to raise awareness about the importance of environmental protection initiatives.
The awards were presented at a ceremony at Tsinghua University in Beijing by SEPA Minister Xie Zhenhua, Professor Chen Xi and DuPont Chairman and CEO Chad Holliday.
Chad said: "For sustainable growth, it is important that the general public is well aware of the environmental issues around them so that society can address those issues while striving to excel in the economy. Thus, the media plays an important role in educating the general public by constantly bringing up issues for reflection and discussion."
The award presentation was followed by a panel discussion (pictured), during which Minister Xie, Professor Chen and Chad exchanged ideas with the audience on how government, business and the public share the responsibility for environmental protection.
"As a corporate citizen, DuPont continues to improve its environmental performance to meet our goal of 'zero waste and emissions,'" Chad said. "While we are striving to reduce our environmental footprint through three strategic pathways (integrated science, knowledge intensity and productivity gains), we will continue to support the community's efforts in raising public awareness of the need for environmental protection with sponsorships such as the DuPont Cup Award."
