Draft 1 of ENERGY STAR 6.0 Specification Released; AAMA to Prepare Response

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the release of Draft 1 of the ENERGY STAR® for Windows, Doors, and Skylights Version 6.0 specification and the ENERGY STAR for Windows, Doors, and Skylights Version 6.0 Draft 1 Criteria and Analysis Report for stakeholder review.

AAMA’s Regulatory Affairs Committee Rapid Response Team (RRT) will conduct a thorough review of the draft document and develop an AAMA response.To ensure that the RRT is able to address industry concerns, AAMA members are encouraged to participate in the AAMA Legislative and Regulatory LinkedIn® group to share their comments on the latest draft.



According to the EPA, this draft specification was developed with consideration to the comments received in response to the Version 6.0 Product Specification Framework Document released in October 2011.



Written comments must be received by September 28, 2012, and may be submitted to windows@energystar.gov. The EPA has requested that stakeholders include supporting data and documentation for all comments submitted where relevant. If submissions contain confidential information, indicate so clearly and prominently at the top of the document(s). With the exception of those labeled as confidential, stakeholder comments will be posted on the ENERGY STAR website.



EPA will be hosting an in-person stakeholder meeting, to be held in Washington, D.C., and concurrent webinar on August 27, 2012. To register for the in-person stakeholder meeting, email windows@energystar.gov with "Stakeholder Meeting Registration" in the subject line and your contact information in the body of the email. Details on meeting times and registration for the webinar will be provided at a later date.



The ENERGY STAR 6.0 specification is expected to take effect January 1, 2014.
