The Dolton glass container manufacturing facility of Saint-Gobain Containers, Inc. has been recognized for its production of an award-winning product in a national packaging design competition called the Clear Choice Awards.

The local plant is being honored for manufacturing Del Monte Organic Pickles, by M.A. Gedney, winner in the Organic Food Category of the competition.

The Glass Packaging Institute (GPI), the trade association representing the North American glass container industry, conducts the annual Clear Choice Awards, which recognizes consumer product goods companies that package their food, beverage, cosmetic and fragrance products in glass.

"Glass continues to be the preferred packaging material for 'premium,' 'pure,' and 'sustainable' new products," said GPI President Joseph Cattaneo. "We congratulate the employees of the local Saint-Gobain Containers facility for their contributions in bringing this product to the marketplace. Their hard work reflects the glass container manufacturing industry's commitment to product innovation, sustainability, and quality manufacturing."

"As a leading supplier of glass jars to the U.S. food industry, we are thrilled to have worked with M.A. Gedney and to have a winning customer in the 2008 organic food category. Our Dolton facility is vital to the success of our business, and we congratulate them on their hard work and dedication in this project," says Steve Rhea, Senior Vice President, Strategic Development for Saint-Gobain Containers.
