Deshima Netherlands Awards 2009 For Teijin And Sekisui S-Lec

Maria van der Hoeven, presented the Deshima Netherlands Awards for the second time in a row.   The Deshima Netherlands Awards were introduced in 2007 by the Netherlands Foreign Investment agency (NFIA) and the Dutch and Japanese Trade Federation (Dujat).Since 2007, they awarded every two years to successful Japanese investors in the Netherlands and underline the importance of Japanese investments in the Netherlands.
 
With 2009 being the anniversary year for 400 years of trade relations between the Netherlands and Japan, the Deshima Netherlands Award in the category ‘well-established’ was won by Teijin, a global chemical and pharmaceutical company. Sekisui S-Lec, a world leader in the field of multi-layer technologies, received the 2009 Award in the category ‘newcomer’.
 
The winners received their prizes as a result of their economic impact in the Netherlands and their innovative characters. Additionally, their efforts with regard to durability and social engagement as well as their interaction with the Dutch business community played an important role in their
evaluation.
 
In her speech Minister Van der Hoeven referred to the long and close economic relations between Japan and the Netherlands. The Minister emphasized that mutual trust plays an important role in the flourishing trade relations between both countries. The Netherlands is currently home to some
400 establishments of Japanese companies, with a combined turnover of € 12 billion and employment for 27,000 people.
