panel makers for infringement on retardation film related patents, and several of the makers have settled with the US-based glass provider by paying royalties, Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), one of the Taiwan-based defendants, said it refuses to compromise and may launch a counter suit.

Guardian filed requests to a court in Delaware this January, claiming 24 display and system makers, including AU Optronics (AUO), CPT, Quanta Display, BenQ, Tatung and Dell, have infringed its retardation film related patents, while adding Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) and HannStar Display to the list this March.CPT said that the Taiwan government has summoned Taiwan-based panel makers to discuss the case but CMO and AUO settled with the US-based company this March and May, respectively. HannStar has agreed to pay royalties while Quanta Display has also settled with Guardian.

Despite its fellow panel makers all coming to terms, CPT said it has decided to file a counter suit, as Guardian has been pressuring CPT¡¯s clients to force CPT to pay royalties.
