In response to rumors regarding current and future glass substrate supply shortages, Verdon A. Eugene Jr., president of Corning Display Technologies Taiwan, stated there is no reason to assume Corning will not meet the supply expectations from customers, according to a press release issued by the company.A recent article by Korea-based market research firm DisplayBank stated that AU Optronics (AUO) was suffering from unstable supply of glass substrates from Corning and low yields.
AU Optronics (AUO), Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO), Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and Innolux Display, have all signed long-term contracts with Corning to guarantee sufficient supply of next-generation glass substrates, and Verdon stated that Corning has always met its LCD glass supply commitments to its customers and will continue to meet its current and future supply agreements.
Corning also clarified that its second Taiwan facility in Taichung remains on track to begin test production this quarter and the company expects to begin producing and shipping larger-size glass substrates from this facility in the fourth quarter of this year.
