The traveling glassmaking show arrived this week in Jamestown, Va., to take part in the commemoration of the Jamestown colony's 400th anniversary.
"We have our staff on site in Virginia warming up furnaces," Steve Gibbs, roadshow manager, said May 4 shortly after the roadshow arrived.
"We are deeply flattered at the opportunity to be there."
Gibbs said the museum's mobile glassmaking show was invited to Jamestown because glassmaking was first attempted there in 1608.
"It was the first industry attempted on the North American continent," Gibbs said.
"There's a wonderful synergy of our expertise and the history of Jamestown."
Gibbs said the roadshow crew -- supervisor John Cowden and glassblowers Lewis Olson and Eric Meek -- are demonstrating glassmaking techniques from the Colonial era in Jamestown as well as contemporary practices.
