Corning to close its Danville plant

Another major employer in Southside has announced it’s shutting down.  Corning is closing its Danville manufacturing plant at the end of the year.

Workers there made glass for the automotive and medical industries.  Demand for those products has dried up.



Two hundred people work at Corning in Danville. Some of those jobs may transfer to other Corning plants, including the one in Christiansburg. City leaders say they’re "shocked" by Monday’s announcement.
