From a distance, the building complex with its appearance of a giant diamond, impresses with dynamic power, from close up the different façade elements have a fascinating effect. In the diamond-shaped facade pattern of the new Hilton hotel in Schiphol, transparent and opaque, flat and curved elements alternate. Composite elements as well as transparent and enamelled glass panels allow a mosaic-like pattern to be created.
Depending up on the angle and the brightness, the complex at times appears to be dazzling white, at others mysteriously anthracite grey and shimmering. The pattern combines the three elements of the complex – base, tower with hotel rooms and passageway to the airport – to form a striking structure which creates a strong focal point on the access road to the airport.
