To help close the skills gap in the glass sector, Pilkington United Kingdom Limited has released details of its Product Knowledge training course programme for 2016.
Skills were highlighted as a key negative risk to growth in the construction sector in the summer edition of the Construction Products Association’s Construction Industry Forecasts. This report identifies the need for considerable investment in skills for growth forecasts to be met.
The Product Knowledge programme for 2016 is centred on two courses. The introductory and intermediate level PK1 is aimed at industry starters and those new to a sales role. PK2 is set at an advanced level for those who are involved in project specifications and need to be able to undertake wind, snow and barrier loading calculations and determine performance data.
“2015 has definitely been a year of training in the glass and glazing industry,” comments Phil Brown, Technical Advisory Service Manager and course organiser. “The number of registrations for our Product Knowledge courses this year has been higher than in the past few years. With the importance of training recognised in our sector, we expect this trend to continue in 2016.”
Although extra dates have been added to next year’s programme, customers have been urged to register interest as soon as possible to avoid missing out.
“We already have a waiting list from this year," Phil adds, “which will be carried over to 2016. This is as well as the huge number of enquiries received in the short time following the announcement of the new dates.”
