British doctors have removed a large chunk of glass from a Malmesbury woman's leg 12 years after she crashed through a window, The Sun said Monday.

Alex Maggs was 17 when she went through a plate glass window while dancing at a nightclub in Corfu, Greece. She spent more than a week in a hospital on the island after doctors sewed up an 8-inch gash with more than 100 stitches.

However, they sewed into her leg a shard of glass about the size of a credit card.

Maggs, 29, said she has been skiing, hiking and even worked as a cowgirl on a U.S. ranch without the leg bothering her. But two months ago, her leg began aching and swelling.

An X-ray at Ridgeway Hospital in Swindon revealed the lump of glass, which was removed by doctors.

"The doctor looked at the X-ray and gasped 'Oh my God!'" she told the Sun. "I can't believe I have spent the last 12 years walking round with that thing in my leg and not even noticed."
