Ceradyne Inc., which makes ceramic body armor and solar products, said it acquired Viox Corp., a specialty glass maker, for $27 million.
The price includes a post-closing adjustment in about two months as well as contingent payments of up to $22 million.
Ceradyne said it expects the acquisition will help earnings immediately. Viox will become part of the company´s advanced ceramic operations segment and all current Viox staffers will stay in Seattle. Ceradyne shares rose 36 cents to $33.72 in morning trading.
