Allied Material Technology Corporation (AMTC) will start volume shipments of fifth-generation (5G) LCD color filters (CFs) in December, with a maximum capacity of 70,000 glass substrates to be reached by the first quarter of 2007, according to the company.

After volume production begins in December, AMTC's 5G CF line in Luchu, southern Taiwan will run at an initial monthly capacity of 25,000 units and mainly support demand from four panel makers, including AU Optronics (AUO), AMTC said.

Due to tight supply of 5G CFs, AMTC will gradually increase its 5G CF capacity, the maker indicated.

The maker quoted data in saying the combined need of 5G CFs from China-based BOE Optoelectronics Technology (BOE OT), Shanghai SVA-NEC Liquid Crystal Display (SVA-NEC) and Info Vision Optronics (IVO), along with Taiwan-based AUO, Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) and HannStar Display currently is 320,000-350,000 units per month. The monthly 5G CF capacity from AMTC, Sintek Photronic and Dai Nippon Printing (DNP), only totals 280,000 units, AMTC indicated.
