From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., guests will encounter a drumming circle around an outdoor steam whistle sculpture, music by the band Entrain, wine tastings and, new this year, an outdoor glassmaking demonstration in an ice studio.
Guests can bring their own drum or borrow from a limited number of drums provided by Toko Imports, Ithaca, then join the outdoor drumming circle around "WhistleWorks," a glass steam whistle sculpture created by Michigan-based artist Greg Worthington The open drumming circle will be conducted by One Heart community drumming circle and facilitated by Steve Calkins.
Nearby, glassmakers will demonstrate in a specially constructed studio surrounded by more than 13 tons of ice, using new portable state-of-the-art glassmaking equipment being developed by The Corning Museum of Glass.
Indoors, more than 15 Finger Lakes wineries will provide samples, flameworkers will create glass steam whistles throughout the museum, and the band Entrain will perform in the Auditorium. Flameworking demonstrations will be provided by Bob Carson, Eric Goldschmidt, Ed Hammond and John Hargrave.
2300 Degrees to offer fire, ice, wine, molten glass
Think it's impossible to work with 2,300-degree Fahrenheit molten glass in a frozen outdoor ice studio? The Corning Museum will prove it's both possible and spectacular during its 40th 2300-degree event Feb. 16"40, Fire and Ice" is the title of the museum's next free 2300 Degrees event.
