10th UK Packaging Awards - A great year for glass

The tenth year of the UK Packaging Awards have once again seen glass demonstrate innovation, quality and elegance – and showcase a UK manufacturing industry creative flair and its eyes on the future.

All the British Glass members who entered were shortlisted for awards, resulting in winners and commendations.As in previous years, British Glass sponsored two awards – for everyday and premium glass packs. But it wasn’t just the glass-specific categories where our members were recognised.

O-I’s £25million investment in its plant at Alloa is adding value to Scotland’s spirit industry – bringing flexible manufacturing that will help Scottish brands in Scottish bottles compete in shifting global markets. The investment’s support of 600 direct, and 500 indirect jobs underlines the enduring role of modern glassmaking to the UK economy.

“We have upgraded Alloa’s design, new product development, glass colour and decoration facilities,” said Vitaliano Torno, O-I Europe’s Managing Director. “We would like to thank Scottish Enterprise for its support in strengthening our ability to serve the developing needs of the spirits industry in Scotland.”

Glass pack of the year – Everyday



Winner – Ardagh for Harrogate Spring Water


Judges commented on the diamond facets give a sparkle that’s sure to attract and engage the end consumer and make this bottle everyday bottle feel special.



Highly commended – Allied Glass Containers for Glen’s Vodka


Based on customer research, this contemporary, embossed update of the Glen’s Red bottle gives it a a eye-catching, quality feel that will make it welcome at even the most stylish parties.



Glass pack of the year – Premium



Winner – Stölzle Glass Group for Macallan Reflexion


The perfume bottle’s extraordinary faceted, slender body, conical shape and small base doesn’t just give it shelf-appeal. It’s design and production show great skill and expertise in making it stable and in applying the double-flux gold – a technique which gives it an embossed look.



Highly commended – Ardagh for Bombay Sapphire’s Star of Bombay


Ardagh’s perfect execution of this bottles concentric facets gives an air of depth and complexity to this premium gin. Taller, slimmer and with a subtle taper it’s sure to stand out on the shelf.



Limited edition of the year



Highly commended - Stölzle Glass Group forAcqua di Giò Blue


A new inkjet decoration technique from Stölzle has helped Armani use photo-realistic images to create a stunning 3-D effect. A real collectors’ item.



Investment project of the year



Highly commended – O-I for Alloa plant investment
