Helios project
The new solar plane named Helios has reached an altitude of 100.000 feet and set a new record for sustained flight at that altitude. Take a closer look at this new NASA plane with the following article.
Helios has no body, only a 75-meter wing covered with photovoltaic glass. These solar panels produce enough energy to power all of the fourteen propellers, which enable complete air autonomy for a period of up to 6 months. The main purpose of Helios is to perform atmospheric sampling, weather monitoring and other functions similar to the satellites currently orbiting the earth. Helios gives a tremendous boost to the research and usage of photovoltaic glass. More information on Helios is available on selected links.
