OCS Glass: complete solutions for the glass industry

With 30 years experience in the manufacture of glass processing machinery, OCS Glass has, as its core business, the production of machines for the cutting, transport and storage of flat glass. Thanks to the leadership of Francesco Schiavo, the company has, as its main priority, growth and innovation, while constantly improving its entire product range.

GROWTH AND INNOVATION
With growth and innovation as its main priority, OCS Glass has, in 30 years of activity, gained experience and become a well-known company worldwide in the production of its core business: flat glass processing machinery. Growth was the reason why, in 2008, the company moved its headquarters to Robecchetto con Induno, just outside of Milan, northern Italy, to larger premises more equipped to meet this growth and, to be able to satisfy better the needs of clients, a part of this area has been dedicated to a warehouse with machines ready to be delivered.

Also during 2008, Michele Schiavo, the son of the owner of OCS Glass, joined
the company as Head of Sales. Company mission therefore became that of the internationalization of its markets, increase its presence abroad, and making the brand of OCS Glass well known at international level.

The first results of this new strategy could already been seen in 2008, and, in
fact, sales are made up of 60 per cent exports, with main countries being France, Spain, Portugal, Russia and the Middle East. The aim is that of, above all, getting new agents to reach new markets in Europe and the Middle East, and to be able to make the company known in completely new areas for OCS Glass, such as the Americas and Asia.

And thanks to the company’s design and manufacture of high-tech machinery with good price/quality ratio, and particular attention to operator safety and ease of use, it is sure to reach these goals.

COMPANY PRODUCTS
OCS Glass’ wide range of machines is entirely produced in-house, so as to satisfy the needs of clients ranging from the smallest to the largest glassworks, and include: lifting tongs, suction cup devices, manipulators, jib and column cranes, loaders and unloads, cutting tables, glass carriages, storage systems, drills, grinders and sanding machines.

Lifting tongs
OCS Glass manufactures four models of tongs for glass lifting and transport:
- P/12 - glass thickness: 2-12 millimetres,
load capacity: 500 kilos;
- P/12C “short” - glass thickness: 2-12 millimetres,
load capacity: 500 kilos;
- P/20 - glass thickness: 3-20 millimetres,
load capacity: 1000 kilos;
- P/40 - glass thickness: 20-40 millimetres,
load capacity: 1000 kilos.

The P/12C tongs are basically the same as the P/12 tongs except for their reduced height and are particularly useful for glassworks with lower roofs and ceilings.

Suction cup devices
Suction cup devices are one of the products in which OCS Glass has invested considerably in research and development. Particular attention has been given to safety, especially when these devices are used on building sites. The suction cup devices are available in numerous different models and with optional equipment to satisfy each and any need and demand in lifting and transporting glass sheets.

Each device features a robust structure in electro-welded iron, double safety circuit and double vacuum tank to guarantee the gripping of the glass sheets even in the case of black out.

Moreover, there is also an acoustic and lumi- nous alarm to signal to the operator when the correct level of vacuum has been reached to lift the glass sheet or of a loss of vacuum and, therefore, possible danger.

OCS Glass suction cup devices are available as fixed, manual and motorized devices. The fixed devices do not have the possibility of rotation or tilting the glass sheet but are only for the gripping and transport of glass. The models available are with four suction cups for weights up to 360 kilos up to those with 16 suction cups for weights up to 1,500 kilos. Tension used is that of 220/380 Volt or 24 Volt. The optional equipment available for this type of suction cup devices includes extendable forks for the picking up of small- and large-sized glass sheets, double- or triple voltage, and 24 Volt rechargeable batteries to be independent  and free from electrical cables.

OCS Glass manual transport equipment has the possibility of being able to rotate or tilt the glass sheets manually. The models available are with two suction cups for weights up to 180 kilos, up to eight suction cups for weights of up to 720 kilos. Optional equipment for these devices are double- or triple
voltage and 24 Volt rechargeable batteries.

OCS Glass motorized suction cup devices can rotate glass sheets 360° continuously and can tilt glass sheets 90° by means of push-button commanded motors. Thanks to the push-button device with a five-metre cable, all operations such as rotation, tilting and also loading and unloading of the glass can be managed remotely.

Models available are with four suction cups for weights up to 360 kilos, up to those with 16 suction cups for weights up to 1500 kilos. Among the optional equipment there is a very popular radio control. The possibility of eliminating
the cable of the push-button device ensures improved ease of use, especially in operations regarding the positioning of the glass on building sites, and which also ensures higher safety for operators.

Each model can be customized and manufactured as per the individual needs and demands of clients. Other available options are extendable forks, double- or triple voltage and 24 Volt rechargeable batteries with automatic battery charger.

Manipulators
Glass manipulators are one of the most recent products developed by OCS Glass. This kind of product is particularly useful in all those processes and situations regarding repetitive operations or where there is the need to load and unload glass sheets from racks quickly, for example on double-glazing lines, grinders, work centres, etc.

OCS Glass’ manipulators are made up of a normal crane and a suction cup device with a single command panel, therefore eliminating the pushbutton
panel of the crane. All lifting and lowering operation of the crane, as well as rotation, tilting, loading and unloading operations of the suction cups are managed by the control panel.

In this way, the operator never has to take his hands from the manipulator, and he can control the device better during operations, with considerable benefits in terms of speed and safety. In fact, this device is strongly recommended for those glassworks that want to increase productivity of their lines, while reducing to a minimum loading and unloading time.

There are many different models available to satisfy all production needs, from those with two suction cups for weights up to 180 kilos, up to those with eight suction cups for weights up to 720 kilos. The manipulator can be powered by compressed air or by electricity as per the model. Rotation and tilting are therefore pneumatic or motorized.

The MP04-GP-S manipulator has the possibility of rotating the suction cup
holders from vertical to horizontal, positioning the suction cups in a linear configuration. This device is therefore particularly useful in the production of doubleglazing or armoured glass panels, where it is necessary to lift large glass sizes as well as heavy and narrow glass, using the same device. Assembly is simple and fast since the mani-pulator is connected to the crane by means of a connector.

Cutting tables
The cutting table sector is the main sector in which OCS Glass works and where it has invested the most. The company has tables for manual-, semi-automatic and automatic cutting.

TRP/105 manual cutting table
The TRP/105 cutting table has a structure in electro-welded iron and a pneumatically tilting table. The work surface is made of wood covered in black felt, and is equipped with pneumatically powered wheels for the movement of the glass.

TCA/101 and TCA/102 breakout tables
The TCA/101 and TCA/102 breakout tables are characterized by a robust structure in electro- welded iron and pneumatic and hydraulic tilting table respectively. These machines also have powerful air cushions by means of fans with silencers, and three breakout bars with pneumatic movement (two transversal and one longitudinal). The table is equipped with a safety
and blockage system as per CE norms.

TP/CA 35 semi-automatic cutting tables
The TP/CA 35 semi-automatic cutting table is for linear, X and Y cutting of float glass. The table has hydraulic tilting, a powerful air cushion, and two + one pneumatic breakout bars, and is available in different models as per the
needs of the glassworks. Cutting can therefore be carried out completely manually by means of handle or with a motorized axis. The table has two displays to visualize the measurement and, on request, can also be equipped with a resistance with a second cutting bridge for laminated glass cutting. Standard glass dimension to be processed are: 3,210 x 2,400 millimetres.

TCA3200 automatic cutting tables
The TCA3200 automatic cutting table is for X, Y and linear cutting and features reliability, speed and an economic price. This machine has been designed and studied for a precise target: that of small- and medium-sized glassworks. As for all cutting tables of OCS Glass, the TCA3200 has a robust and elegant structure as well as ease of use. It is equipped with three breakout bars, a powerful air cushion and hydraulic tilting, and ensures fast and precise cutting. The cutting bridge works by means of brushless motors with belt and each movement is controlled numerically by CNC. It is also equipped with double zeros for the cutting of laminated glass and cutting is managed by an optimization programme. Standard dimensions of glass to be cut are 3,210 x 2,600 millimetres.

Puma automatic cutting table
If the TCA3200 is the economic solution for small- and medium-sized glassworks, Puma is the answer for those who require high performance.
The cutting bridge has powerful brushless motors and transmission is by means of rack and pinion. Numerical control guarantees extreme precision both for straight and shaped cutting, with speed up to 150 metres per minute. Double zero for laminated glass cutting and optimization software. Standard glass dimension programme for glass sizes of 3,210 x 2,600 millimetres.
Both the TCA3200 and the Puma are also available for glass sheets of 6,000 x 3,210 millimetres, and can be equipped with transport belts, low-E grinding wheels and also have the availability of a remote-assistance service.

Automatic loaders and unloaders
Automatic loaders and unloaders are the most well-known and appreciated products of OCS Glass. The loader automatically picks up the glass sheets from the rack and positions them on the machine, which is equipped with motorized wheels for the transport of the glass to the processing area. The loader can be mono- or bilateral and can be built for the loading of glass sheets of 3,210 x 2,600 millimetres or 6,000 x 3,210 millimetres. There is also the possibility of picking up glass from series of racks by motorizing the loader on tracks. The loader can also be connected to cutting tables, laminating lines, satinetched lines, etc. work cycles can be carried out in automatic or semi-automatic mode.
