Official Report From China Glass 2008

The 19th China International Glass Industrial Technical Exhibition (China Glass 2008) was held at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing on 1013 April, 2008. This is another grand gathering of the glass circles from the world over. The exhibition was organized by the Chinese Ceramic Society, co-organized by the China National Association for Glass Industry and the Chinese Architectural and Industrial Glass Association, and run by the Beijing Zhonggui Exhibition Co., Ltd.

The China International Glass Industrial Technical Exhibition has been approved by the Chinese Government and held every year alternately at Shanghai (in odd years) and Beijing (in even years), and has enjoyed a great reputation both in China and abroad. Events of this exhibition are supported by Chinese glass-related government departments and nationwide associations. China Glass is the leading glass exhibitions in Asia and one of the three largest international glass exhibitions in the world.

The exhibition area covered over 53,000 m2 and there were 738 exhibitors coming from 21 countries: China, Germany, Italy, the USA, Belgium, the UK, France, Finland, the Netherlands,, Switzerland, Sweden, Czech, Austria, Australia, Israel, Jordan, Japan, Korea, India and Indonesia. Among them, 248 are foreign exhibitors, including 4 state exhibitors’ groups from Germany, Italy, the USA and Belgium. Many exhibitors, especially the Italian exhibitors group, greatly enlarged their exhibition areas compared with the last event, so the total available exhibition area of the Exhibition Centre fell short of the demand. The exhibition area and the number of exhibitors of China Glass 2009 are both larger than those of all the previous events.

Leaders of relevant Chinese government departments and nation-wide industrial associations were present at the exhibition, including Zhang Renwei, Chairman of the China Building Material Federation and President of the Chinese Ceramic Society, Yu Zhen, Chairman of China Machinery Industry Federation, Zhang Shanmei, Senior Advisor of the China National Light Industry Council, Yang Zipeng, Vice Chairman of the China National Light Industry Council, as well as diplomatic officers of related countries in Beijing. The exhibition attracted 30,391 professional visitors, of which over 2600 came from 88 foreign countries: Afghanistan, Albania, American Samoan, Angola, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech, Demark, Egypt, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Korea, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, Nepal, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Tanzania, Thailand, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, Uganda, UK, Ukraine, USA, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Viet Nam, White Russia, Yemen, Zambia
Numerous world-famous companies of the glass industry showed up at China Glass 2008 to demonstrate their up-to-date technologies, equipment and products, representing a new level of the current development of the international glass industry. The Chinese exhibitors displayed their new equipment and products, which are highly applicable with high quality and reasonable prices. Therefore, this exhibition provided a very good opportunity and platform for professional visitors both abroad and at home to conduct technical exchanges and trade talks, and to seek technical and economic cooperation partners.

Significant international conferences were held during the exhibition, at which experts and scientists had academic exchanges and discussions around many hot topics about energy saving and environment protection. These activities not only promoted the efforts of the Chinese glass industry for energy conservation, emission reduction and building energy saving to save energy resources and reduce discharges of greenhouse gases and other harmful gases, thus improving environment and climate, but also attracted more foreign attendees, including important figures, to the conference and the exhibition, so as to further extend the influence of the exhibition.

Simultaneously with the exhibition, three international conferences were held: (1) the 6th Glass Performance Days (GPD China 2008) on 8-9th April, supported by the Chinese Ceramic Society and organized by Glaston Group, which is the organizer of the famous International Glass Performance Days Conference held in Finland, China Building Material Academy and China Building Material Test & Certification Centre. (2) Seminar on Energy Conservation and Reduction of Emissions of Glass Furnaces on 9th April, organized by the Chinese Building Material Federation, the Chinese Ceramic Society, the Chinese Architectural and Industrial Glass Association, the American Ceramic Society, and the Glass Manufacturing Industry Council of the USA. (3) USA-China Building Envelop Energy Efficiency Technology Cooperation Conference on 12th April, sponsored by the United States Department of Energy, National Fenestration Rating Council of the USA, International Window Film Association and China Construction Metal Structure Association.

In addition, the Electronic Glass Sub-committee of the Chinese Ceramic Society organized a technical exchange meeting on electronic glass technology. More than 80 participants attended the meeting and 15 special reports were given. In addition to the above meeting, the Chinese and foreign exhibitors held 9 special technical seminars.

In keeping with the ever-rising awareness of protection of intellectual property rights, the organizer of this exhibition set up an on-spot office in dealing with problems regarding intellectual property rights. Besides, the exhibition employed professional lawyers in charge of affairs about propaganda, consultancy and complains in relation to intellectual property rights at the exhibition and accepted related cases. During the exhibition, the office received over 50 person-times who needed advice in this respect and 2 cases were successfully resolved. This shows that the exhibition’s organizer paid full attention to the protection of intellectual property rights of the exhibitors. This has further improved the brand image of the China Glass exhibition.

Owing to good services provided by the organizer and productive results of the exhibitors, the exhibitors increased their enthusiasms for participation in the exhibition. According to statistics, 85% of the exhibitors of this event are old clients, more and more visitors showed their avid interests in the exhibition and the satisfaction rate of the exhibitors reached 94%. As high as 99% of the exhibitors expressed their desire to attend the exhibition next year and most of them hoped to expand their exhibition booths. This manifests that China Glass has been widely acknowledged among the international glass circles.
China Glass 2009 will be staged at the Shanghai New International Expo Center on 13-16th May next year.
