QPS: A Quality Seal For Insulating Glass Sealants

The question is rather rhetoric, as it is one we already know the answer to: “Why create a quality seal for insulating glass sealants?”
According to the escalating request of quality in the glass industry, the answer is quite simple: quality guarantee.
On the other hand, the process underlying is not as straightforward as it would seem at a first glance.

Insulating glass sealants must deliver a number of characteristics to be considered products of quality and most of them are difficult to judge on sight. Take for example being non-toxic for humans and the environment, durable, the capacity to endure extreme climates and being in compliance with the laws of different countries worldwide.
In a global and competitive market, some companies of the chemical industry may be tempted to take one too many shortcuts. That is why users must be given a proof that only a seal of quality can guarantee.

The QPS® logo was created to provide users with a sure reference for the quality of polysulfide sealants, enhancing the confidence in the long term properties of the product. Sealants with the quality logo on their drums fully satisfy these requirements:

  • They are non-toxic, environmentally sound and do not contain solvents or heavy metals such as mercury and lead
  • They are based on raw materials produced by ISO 9001 certified suppliers with at least twenty years of experience in the field
  • They can be used on any type of equipment (sealing robots or manual pumps) and have excellent processing characteristics
  • Once properly applied on the insulating glass unit they are compatible with any weather and environmental condition providing long-term durability and persistent gas tightness
  • They are used all over the world
  • They comply with all the national standards for quality of insulating glass worldwide, including the new EN-1279 (CE Marking for Insulating Glass) European standard
  • They are produced by companies which are ISO 9001 certified and routinely inspected by at least two institutes responsible for controlling the quality of insulating glass.
  • They are produced by companies with at least 25 years of experience in the industry

For the reasons listed above, the top polysulfide sealant producers decided to establish very strict selection criteria and asked a team of experts to make all the necessary inspections.
It is noteworthy, therefore, that the companies that have chosen to submit their products for certification want to take a step further for the good of environment, industry and consumers.
