Glass storage techniques
Glass storage is an important issue which every company should take into consideration as improper glass storage techniques may result in damaged glass surfaces or glass breakage.
The selection of an appropriate system may save storage space and reduce the incidence of glass breakage. This means increasing safety and reducing costs. Many companies experience glass breakage due to rack failure or improper glass storage. Depending on your needs, glass can be stored in different racks or left in wooden crates. Wooden crates increase handling time, due mainly to the need to open the crates and remove the empty cases, and they generally occupy more space. However, they are more practical for temporary storage. Also, when storing sheets of glass it is necessary to consider the different mechanical and chemical conditions that may effect the glazing surface. To avoid breakage, glass must be set on appropriate strips at the correct angle. Staining during storage may also occur if the glass is exposed to water or humidity, and therefore a dry and ventilated location should be selected. The linked pages provide additional information.
