 Warm-edge technology is a hot issue in insulating glass manufacturing. The idea of replacing metallic spacers in order to improve the thermal performance of insulating glass was first introduced in 1970. At the time, the concept was too innovative and offered several disadvantages. In the 1980?s this technology was brought forth again and finally adopted and optimized for construction insulating glass in the 1990?s. Today warm edge spacers improve thermal performance of windows, reduce condensation and with the appropiate machinery permit faster and easier assembling of insulating glass units. As a result of these advantages, nearly 50% of the nearly 90 million sealed units sold today in North America are assembled with warm-edge spacers.
