How are you handling your mirrors?
Improper handling, storing and cleaning of mirrors may result in damages or quick deterioration of mirror surfaces. When this occurs, costly replacement for the glazing contractor, or customer's dissatisfaction with the quality of mirror products are inevitable.
To avoid such unpleasant situations, mirror manufacturers offer guidance and instructions for handling their products. Here are some of the most common ones: Mirrors should be unpacked as soon as possible and stored vertically on a soft surface, such as wooden boards with spacers, in dry, well ventilated areas, separated by clean paper. The storage time should be kept to a minimum and should never exceed six months. Mirror edges are the most vulnerable part, and processing by grinding and polishing increases the chances of corrosion, more so than in clean cut edges. After processing, it is advisable to use protective substances to further protect the mirror edges from corrosion. The best method to clean mirrors is to wipe the mirror face with a soft cloth and clean water. The mirror has to be dried immediately after cleaning, especially around the edges.
