I need security glass
This is a common phrase heard today by those looking for laminated glass. However, due to recent progress in the glass industry, security glazing has also become a very complex and sophisticated business with varying requirements and an endless number of options.
Laminated glass offers different types of security protection: it is therefore important to determine the protection we are interested in. There are many types of security: bullet resistance, bomb blast resistance, fire resistance, etc. Various combinations and types of interlayers and glass produce different effects. Several layers of glass and vinyl (PVB) combined together offer greater protection. And then the thickness of the glass determines the security of the laminated unit. For example, bullet-resistance laminated glass uses a particular combination of glasses and interlayers to absorb high-powered ballistic force without shattering or being penetrated. Obviously, a multi-layer combination will be used. On the other hand, to prevent forced entry it is usually enough to use annealed and heat-strengthened glass with an interlayer. Fire protection glass is a multi-layered product that literally burns away layer by layer, thus braking the progress of the fire. All of these products are rated by levels and are tested for specific performance criteria.
However, in addition to the benefits that we have discussed above, there are also some limitations. Increased amount of glasses and PVB interlayers create optical distortions and become very heavy. This sometime compromises all the product benefits. Find additional information on types of security glass, applications, benefits and limitations on the selected links.
